Living Sustainably in a Modern World –

Exploring the issues of sustainable living

Is this a swede or a turnip?

The second week of our veg box and we love it!! The chard was amazing (mark’s words!) – stir fried with garlic and chilli to accompany our Gribbles pork chops. This week we have another delivery with some fruit added in too – the challenge this week is the item pictured below – I think its swede, Mark says turnip. I am so embarrassed at our low level of veg knowledge but we are learning all the time. Look out for tomorrow’s blog ….our cat is learning to live sustainably too.

  1. I take it you are talking about the larger item which is definitely a swede. The smaller ones are beetroot!

    1. In most areas it would be a swede, but cross the border into Cornwall and it becomes a turnip…..!!

Swede. Definitely. Turnips are smaller and tend to have a whiter flesh I think.
